The Covenant

Genesis 9:16-17 says “When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth. God said to Noah, ‘This is a sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.’ “

God didn’t say that the bow was so that we could remember his promise. If you look, it never said that, He said that “I will see it and remember...” God knows there will be a day when there will only be a small remnant that will worship him and there won’t be many who will even know what that rainbow truly means. Today even, that sign has already been perverted to mean something completely different. Something completely contrary to anything taught in His word. He knew that. So it is a sign for Him to remember - not us. We will think ourselves gods. He will want to destroy us for our sinfulness. We deserve it. He will need the reminder.

“This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, FOR ALL FUTURE GENERATIONS. “ (vs 12). That is us. I am so thankful for that rainbow. I am thankful that God knows what He is doing and that He made a covenant and that he is a promise keeper- aren’t you?

Are you a promise keeper? Can you be counted on? As Christ’s representatives we are called to be a reflection of Christ so that others can come to know him. How are you doing today? Have you thanked Him for his covenant promise?
