Quit Being Right
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,” (Eph.1:4-5) We are not a lone island. “I” have not been chosen and “you” have not been chosen. “he” and “she” has not been chosen. But, in contrast, “we” have been chosen. We, God’s church as a whole have been chosen and set apart. We have been predestined to be the change. We have been set aside, to be the example to the world. We are Christ on earth. Lately I have been thinking about this. We are so caught up in being “right” that we, as a church (I am talking about the western evangelical American church as a whole here), oftentimes forget to “love”. What would our church look like if we only focused on Jesus? If all we had instead of doctrine and schools of thought and practices and tradition was Jesus? If we were free to truly just love? Would we still be the laughing stock of America? Because I can assure you that right now, we as a church are the laughing stock of America. How can we present ourselves as the one true way when we can’t even get along with each other? God chose us. We need to act like it. What is truly important? What is necessary? Strip it all away and get back to the heart of what Christ wants. Live in unity and love. Spread the Gospel message - the rest we can do without. Let the Holy Spirit do His job and get out of the way. I promise, He won’t screw it up.
