Proverbs 29: Be of Few Words
“a fool gives full vent to his spirit but a wise man quietly holds back”, vs 11. A great reminder that it’s not always good to express yourself. Sitting back and taking in what’s going on, keeping your mouth shut is sometimes (often times) the best thing you can do. Being someone of few words can actually earn you much respect. Just make sure when you do talk, your words mean much! Vs 22-23 gives a follow up well. “A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression. Ones pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” But unfortunately “one who is straight will be an abomination to the wicked” (vs 27b).
Is it worth it though? Ummm YES!!! It always pays to watch words and listen well. A practice that is being lost in today’s society. Stand out, be above the crow. It will take you far and serve you well.
