Proverbs 23: It's All A Choice

Proverbs 23: Stay true to the path God has you in and don’t be lured by the trappings of this world. Whether it be power, wealth, friendships that are toxic, or addictions. Proverbs 23 specifically mentions being lured in by wealth and power, pulled in by friends that aren’t the best and alcoholics to boot. It’s like Solomon is getting tired and wrapping it all up. He doesn’t have time for poetry anymore and needs to get it out. He pleads with his son to seek wisdom and warns parents to discipline a child. “The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice” and then he asks his son “let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice.”

It all hinges on choices. Parents chose whether to discipline. We chose to stay true to God or be pulled into power and wealth and friends that shouldn’t be our friends. And for what? None of those things can be taken to heaven with you! Love what you can take with you - wisdom and a life well lived serving our Lord and loving his children.
