Matthew 5:6 Step 4. Define Your Goal.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousnes, for they shall be satisfied“. We all want to be happy. I truly believe that no one gets up and says to themselves, “I think I’ll be miserable today.” The question is how do we get there? We get there by chasing that which we desire. So what do you want? What do you thirst for? Is it people? Things? money? Prestige? Good times? A cause, crusade? What drives you when you get out of bed? For some it’s the smell of coffee. For others it’s a screaming child or the alarm clock depending on the stage of life you are in. But you don’t HAVE to listen to it. You could leave the baby screaming (please don’t) and you could hit snooze and be late. Something drives you. What? What is your end goal? Jesus says “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness….” Righteousness? What’s that? I believe that we are NOT righteous by any means. I believe that first we must understand that. And we see that only Jesus is righteous and he took our place and took our sin and the paid the price for our sin. He stood in the gap and is interceding for us still, if we are believers and follow him. As we seek righteousness we will know that. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Cor 5:21). Jesus freely offers us righteousness With His saving grace. We then continue to pursue a Christ-like character.

How?

Seek His presence. Pray and stay in the word, even when you don’t feel like it. Surround yourself with other believers. Walk in the Spirit. Good fruit produces more good fruit. (Good habits grow good habits). The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control. The more you practice these, the better you will get at them. The Holy Spirit will guide you and as you become accustomed to both them and Him, you will know when you are being convicted about one of these fruits and when you need to adjust. The more you practice these, the more those around you will be affected as well!

Ask for wisdom! God even invites you to ask for it, it’s that important folks! “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 and “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5

Keep your eyes on Heaven and don’t give up! There will be highs where you will feel surrounded by the love of God and there will be valleys of spiritual darkness where you will wonder if God has left you. He has not. You are growing and will continue to grow as you seek righteousness and you will indeed be satisfied as you enter into His presence and hear those words we all yearn

to hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
