John 2
John 2
Verse 23-25 “Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.”
Authentic belief vs. just knowing. It’s a real thing. There is belief and then there is “belief” and The Bible (John) uses the same Greek verb for believe in the two phrases here “many believed IN his name....BUT Jesus ...did not entrust himself to them”
Jesus looks for a true genuine conversion, not just a belief based on what one has seen. I may believe in Jesus because I saw my child be cured from cancer unexplainably - but that DOES NOT translate into a whole hearted relationship with my creator where I live to serve Him and show Him to others every day. This passage shows that Jesus looks for genuine conversion other than enthusiasm for the spectacular. The book of Romans tells us to ask for renewing of the mind but that needs to be met with a renewing of the spirit as well.
We cannot judge others - only love them. For it says “for he himself knew what was in man.” I Pray for a whole heart conversion and growth as I strive to know my God more. I renew my mind through the word and ask the Holy Spirit to grow and change me every day. Serve God, serve others. Live in love.
Ask yourself, do I know “of” Jesus, or do I KNOW Jesus? If you aren’t sure or don’t like your answer, Today pray that the Holy Spirit will daily grow you and change you. That as you read your Bible everyday, that your eyes would be windows to your soul and that the spirit of God would fill you and draw you in with a longing to love Him and his people and to serve more every day.
