John 16: Get off the Sidelines

John 16 - I think it’s nice that Jesus steps back and says Hey, by the way, I tell you all of this so that you WON’T fall away (because it’s possible for anyone is what’s being implied here) in verse 1, “I have said these things to you to keep you from falling away.” and OH MY GOSH THAT LINE in vs 2, “ Indeed the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.” 😱 It’s like every religous terrorist in the world!!!! And why am I even surprised that Jesus would mention it in scripture 2000 years prior 🙄.

But there you go, that’s Jesus for you.

And he goes on to comfort us and let us know that the Holy Spirit indeed is coming and will convict us of the need for a savior because we indeed are sinners and are not righteous and should be judged. Vs 8, “And when he comes, he will Convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgement: concerning sin because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer, concerning judgement because the ruler of this world will be judged.” Thank goodness the Holy Spirit convicts us and there is Jesus and then God or we would be Lost!

I hope when you are called you don’t ignore it. I hope you don’t stand off to the side and say, yup He’s cool and if I need Him I know where He is.

He isn’t a talisman to be rubbed if needed. And he won’t sit by waiting forever. I hope you get off the sidelines if that’s what you are doing. I hope you get into His word and ask God to Father You and Holy Spirit to help you believe “in” instead of just “believing” ~ it’s what makes all the difference!
