John 12: For the Glory of Man, Not God
John 12
So Jesus does it again. He lays it out for them and you think they would get it. He’s said it a million times it feels like. Not only that, God spoke this time and other people heard! But here it is. It’s not that they were stupid. It’s not that you or I are stupid. But the truth gets laid out for all of us vs 42-43 “Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.”
They loved the glory that comes from man more. What hinders my/your walk with God? Let me put it this way, what do you love more than God? First thing that pops into your head is Nothing! BUT what do you do that God would be saddened by? What bad habits do you have? Do you talk about others in a way that would hurt them if they found out? Do you put off prayer and study to do other things (work, clean, tv, shop, etc)? Do you spend money on things you don’t need vs helping others more often than not? God likes to lavish us with fun and good things, don’t get me wrong; but he also demands first place - is He first in your life?
