Psalm 51:16-17 Humbled

Updated: Sep 6, 2022

“You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it; you are not pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.” Ps 51:16-17.

Interesting. What God wants always sounds so easy and simple. But what God WANTS is always just a little out of the reach of comfortable.

You want my time? Church twice a week? You got it God. Money in the offering plate, no problem. Wear Christian t-shirts, join a Bible study, pray with my kids, send them to church camp, give to missions, Christian music and podcasts, done. Todays sacrifices are done and done well. It’s the nature of the beast isn’t it? It’s what we can do. It makes us feel good. We get to participate.

It makes us participate in a way that causes us believe we are little gods. Because let’s face it, if we are truly honest, it’s not to make God happy, it’s to give us control over whatever situation is going on. Then when things fall apart we expect God to be there - I mean, we did everything right! Right?

“I don’t want your sacrifices—I want your love; I don’t want your offerings—I want you to know me.“ Hosea 6:6

All you, all I have to do is BE! Be with God. Get humble and vulnerable with the One who already knows everything anyway. Just be! Can I ask you something? When is the last time you sat outside and just looked at the sky and saw God? Maybe you are not in an area that has much “God” in the skyline. I have no idea. Maybe you have the most beautiful skyline anyone has ever seen. Regardless, look up. And thank God for loving you. If you are mad at God, tell Him (he already knows and is waiting to listen anyway. BUT He WANTS to listen).

Give him YOU! That’s why He came. That’s why He died. Not for your church attendance or Jesus t-shirt, for you. And he is waiting to BE with you.
