Exodus 15/16: Trust Me, I Know What I am Doing

Exodus 15/16:Trust me. Just do what I say and you will be fine. Don’t we say that all the time? We say that to our kids, to our employees, to our students, people under us at work. Rarely do they listen and we roll our eyes because we know what comes next. We want them to trust us because we know the consequences, we can see further than they can. It’s like sitting at a table and saying “don’t look over there” the first thing everyone does is look! What is that?!?!?!

God had just defeated the Egyptian army in front of the Israelites. They watched Him do it. They needed water and it was bitter; God made it sweet. And then knowing what’s going to happen next he warns them (vs 26) “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which it mandates and keep all its statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am for LORD, your healer.” Yet when time came for food they complain that God brought them out to kill them with hunger 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️. How short the memory is. Same with us, not gonna lie folks. Yet God is a good God and not only does not kill them but feeds them. It’s almost as if he is shaking his head and laughing at the two year old behavior of it all, just a little amused (don’t worry, it will wear out). And just like a good parent God sends not only quail that night but manna (a coriander and honey bread) the next morning and every morning for the next 40 years!!! Hello, back to the instructions. Do they listen and follow instructions? Nope! And what happens- worms! They straighten up on the manna front and get that fixed. No one wants to play around when it comes to food. But God instituted the seventh day rest here, before the mosaic law ever came into play. Vs 29-30 “See the LORD has given you the sabbath therefore on the 6th day He gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in your place; let none of you go out of his place on the 7th day. So the people rested on the 7th day.” Can you obey? Do you want to? Is it too hard? Let God be your healer today and rest in His arms. He will give you food and drink that is out of this world and will be your healer if you will but obey His statutes. He does not lie and is very patient.
